Change is easier only if you believe it is possible for the change to be true. Without this belief, it is almost a certainty that change will not occur. We need a vision, we need our feelings to be validated, we need to be loved, we need to connect with others, we need to be protected, especially when we are vulnerable or defenseless, we need to go through a process of self-actualization and realize our dreams, our wants, our needs. Years of abuse, neglect, criticism, drug addiction, and other destructive forces work against us to make us weak and keep us from believing that change is possible. We also need to satisfy our need to be desirable, competent, successful, attractive, worthwhile and to be good to the people around us. The need to express our emotions our needs our wants. The need to be creative, playful and pursue interests, hobbies and activities that make life fun and keep us healthy. While change can seem easy in some circumstances, the more the change is close to core patterns that you have repeated for years and years, the more difficult change can be. Take smoking for example, many quitters keep going back despite their numerous attempts to quit. These patterns require long-term, systematic and continuous efforts to alter them. Avoiding pain can be a very bad and one of your biggest obstacles to change. Sometimes, you have to face the pain and overcome in order to take control of your life. Like the child who could not defend himself when his parent would beat him with a belt, you need to scream out; you need to feel the pain, and make it known that it was not right. What he did was not right and he did not do the one thing a parent is supposed to do: Protect You! While this was just one example of a situation where you might avoid the pain for years, and avoid talking about it to anyone because it is too painful to talk about. Many of us turn to drugs, or put ourselves in very high risk situations, re-living high levels of abuse that you have become accustom to. Putting ourselves in miserable conditions and devaluing our existence to the point where your life is literally at risk. We need to create a vision for the future. We need to write down how we feel about the top 5 problems in our lives and take baby steps towards resolving them. We have to remind ourselves why we want to change and why it is critical to our survival and happiness. We need to work towards self-actualization and make our dreams our priorities. No longer accept the things that cause us pain. Stand up to those who have abused, hurt or did not protect you when you were vulnerable. Find someone you connect with; build a relationship, based on trust, based on love and affection. Humans are wired for social interaction and relationships. Build a vision for your life. Where do you want to be in 5 years? What would you be happy to do with your life? Be honest with yourself and place a high value on facing reality. Put a price to reality and every time you veer off-track, pay the price you have set. Motivate yourself to change, get help, ask a friend, and see a psychologist. When you are hopeless, when change seems impossible, when your symptoms interfere with your ability to lead a normal life, then you need help. You need help to restore hope, identify the problem, and work on making a change. You need to believe its possible for change to be true. -by Wize

When copyright takes over our freedom

When the rights of those who are not infringing on copyrights, or distributing content without permission overrides the rights of those who do, you know you have a system that punish all, including the innocent. In the recent case of megaupload, it was clear. Innocent and guilty users faced the end of a new amazing service. All their files gone. What if we applied the same logic to Facebook. Many users post copyrighten material. So should we shutdown facebook for everyone to stop the crime? Inspired by classics such as Public Enemy’s: Fear of a black planet album, or ICE-T’s Iceberg album, and of course every Saturday, tuned to the Master at Work hiphop show that to this day, still airs on Montreal’s CKUT90.3FM radio station. Only 16 years old, it was clear that Rap and HipHop would shape his views and beliefs forever. However, despite these factors, the most influential person in his life is and will always remain his sister who in his eyes was the ideal activist for social justice and equality.

From 1994 to 1999, Wize’s love for the arts lead him into music composition and lyric writing. The result of his first demo tape entitled UN declared WAR was released in 1999 and contained 3 controversial tracks about corruption, greed and politics (Who Am I?, Consequences of LAW, Born to Suffer). The record label was first called Chrome Cuts Music, until Wize decided to rebrand to Wizebeats Music in 2001.

From 2001 to 2003, Wizebeats Music had diversified to co-producing dancehall and hiphop mixtapes for various djs including the Road Warrior Sound Crew, Dj B-Ware, Dj Fatta as well commercials for artists and businesses such as Gregory Isaacs, Style Resto Bar and many local Djs.

During the same time period, Wize produced over 30 tracks together with various local artists such as Crown Vik (from Dossier Militaire), The Lounge King, Kamikazi, Trinity, SHI360, Ruffness, The Funky Filter, Giz and Gold, many of which remain unreleased. Just recently, some have been made available on iTunes, Amazon .mp3, Youtube, Facebook, Grooveshark, and many other online distributors as Wize ramps up a return to the music scene.

Before launching his first album, Giz, one of his main and most skilled lyricist left Wizebeats Music, resulting in many tracks being pulled from his planned release. This had a major impact on the actual final tracks that were chosen to be featured on the CD. Nonetheless, Wize put together 20 tracks and released his very first debut solo album entitled Rap Religion in 2004.

This was followed up with collaborations such as FSM2, Rap Religion Promo CD, ESPRIT 2000, and many underground singles. His first single Rapstar went on to qualify for CHOM 97.7FMs yearly Esprit contest and gained popularity across Canada on local community radio stations. His followup single My world featuring female artist Kamikazi also create enough buzz to help him sell over 1,500 copies of his new album. All of this without any promotional videos and very little marketing and promotion.

Although he enjoyed this new found success, it was not enough for him to secure a record deal or distribution to key markets, and therefore its true potential for success was never realized. After a strong focus on his professional career in telecommunications, from 2006 to 2010, he has once again rekindled with his passion for music and already has produced a few tracks that stand in sharp contrast to what he created in the past.

A new and improved, mature and open, militant and ambitious, Wize is emerging, denouncing some of the lyrics and songs he has produced in the past, that no longer represent his beliefs but remain part of the process of growing up and learning from life experiences.

Wize’s music is a melting pot of urban music inspired by a multitude of genres, influences and cultures that will continue to make people stop and listen to his music.
